After 50 avatar generations across 6 styles from the same photo. Professional surprised me. Anime depends entirely on your lighting.
I generated 50 AI avatars from the same photo across all six styles. Some looked better than my actual LinkedIn picture. Others looked like a potato with eyes. Here is what I learned about which styles actually work and which depend entirely on your input photo.
The Professional style produced the most consistently good results across different input photos. Clean headshots with even lighting and neutral backgrounds. Counter-intuitive: Professional mode works better with casual selfies than with actual professional headshots. An already-professional photo gives the AI less room to improve.
Anime produced the most variable results. With well-lit front-facing photos, stunning. With shadows or uneven lighting, distorted. The fix: use flat even front-facing light. This is the opposite of what makes a good photograph. Good photos have depth and shadow. Good anime source photos are flat and evenly lit.
Pixel Art was the most shared style. But it works best with photos that have clear facial outlines and simple backgrounds. Crop to a headshot before running it. The avatar generator gives 4 variations for 5 credits. Try Professional first. If the result looks wrong, check your lighting before blaming the AI.
