Translated text keeps all the pronouns, sounding unnaturally explicit.
AI-generated content created natively in the target language avoids translation artifacts. The sentence structures follow that language's natural patterns. The idioms are culturally appropriate. The pronouns drop where they should drop.
But native generation has its own problems: quality varies by language. AI models are trained on more English data than any other language. Native generation in Spanish or German is nearly as good as English. Native generation in Japanese, Arabic, or Korean is noticeably weaker — more repetition, simpler vocabulary, less nuanced arguments. The AI is less fluent in these languages because it has seen less training data in them.
Spanish, French, German, Portuguese: Native generation works well. These languages have large training datasets. The output quality is close to English. Generate natively, then have a native speaker review.
Japanese, Korean, Chinese: Hybrid approach. Generate natively for the correct sentence structure and cultural framing, but expect rougher output. Polish more aggressively (AI polish + human review).
Arabic, Hindi, Turkish, Vietnamese: Translation from English is currently more reliable than native generation. These languages have smaller AI training datasets, and native generation quality is inconsistent. Translate the English version, then have a native speaker review for translation artifacts.
Low-resource languages (under 10 million speakers): Translation only. Native generation in languages like Icelandic, Basque, or Thai produces unreliable output with factual errors.
Neither approach eliminates the need for human review by a native speaker. Translation produces grammatically correct but foreign-sounding text. Native generation produces natural-sounding text that may contain factual errors or nonsensical passages. The review catches different things in each case: translation review looks for unnatural phrasing; native generation review looks for accuracy.
